A member asked:

Is fosamax (alendronate) safe to use for people?

3 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Yes for most people: Fosamax (alendronate) is generally well tolerated and a proven treatment for reducing the risk for hip and spine fractures due to osteoporosis. But for some people with conditions affecting the esophagus or stomach, or with chronic kidney disease, or who need extensive dental work, there can be serious side effects. Ask your doctor if any of these situations apply to you.

Yes but with all: Medications there may be side effects or even contraindications to use in certain people but when indicated and monitored by your physician, risks can be minimized. Leaving a disease or problem untreated may be more problematic. You should always discuss your diagnosis and treatment options with your physician and let the physician know of any issues that may arise wirh treatment of any type.
