If : If it is just one eye, it is more likely to be a blocked tear drain. This is not typically dangerous but can be very annoying. On occasion it can get infected and painful. If it has not resolved in 6 months, it needs to be looked at. Go to www.Asoprs.Org to find a local oculoplastic surgeon who can evaluate this for you.

Watering : Watering is usually not a sign of anything too serious as long as the vision is ok, and there is no pain. There are a few possible causes, including blocked tear duct, dry eyes with irritation causing tearing, and inflammation of the eyelids (blepharitis) are just a few. He can try artificial tears a couple of times a day as a first, easy treatment, but you may need to have him see an eye doctor to figure out the cause. More info about blepharitis and dry eyes can be found here:.

The : The most common cause of tearing is related to reflex related due to dryness. Many other causes can cause similar symptoms though. If the tearing occurs 24 hours a day without relied and/or is unilateral, it could be related to blocked tear drainage system. I would recommend seeing an oculoplastics specialist for a complete evaluation.
