A member asked:

Is there a surgery that can cure copd?

No: Although there is no surgical option that will "cure" copd, lung volume reduction surgery and lung transplantation have been shown to help improve symptoms and quality of life for people with copd. Along with optimizing the medical care of their condition, these surgical therapies may be a beneficial option for properly selected people suffering from copd.

No...: There is no cure for copd. If the COPD is severe enough, lung transplant surgery may be considered and if both lungs are completely replaced by lungs without any COPD present, then and only then would the person no longer have copd. They would then need to never smoke and avoid second hand smoke as well to keep the new lungs healthy. As transplant is a rare outcome, there is really no cure.
