How long should i wait after my bypass surgery before taking a long plane trip?

This varies: Keep in mind, some patients travel by plane to get their surgery. In general, some risks of flying involve development of blood clots, that risk is elevated during the initial post op period. Avoided by keeping active(walk when permitted), hydration. Your surgeon will tell you. Uncomplicated surgery, 3 weeks. Again, talk to your surgeon. Sternal wires may set off certain alarm types.

Consult your MD: But can probably fly a couple weeks after you are discharged from hospital ... Usually can ask your cardiothoracic surgeon or cardiologist at your postoperative clinic or office visit ...
