I just had a paraguard put in on friday the 17th. since then i have continued to have some heavy bleeding and cramps. the blood is a very deep red and seems to come in spurts. i have some pretty horrid cramps that follow and this makes bending and living

You : You are right, these can cause pain and bleeding after initial insertion, and those symptoms are not uncommon. Yes, your doctor can prescribe something to take the pain away, so please call and explain that you are having pain and cramping. You may want to trial Ibuprofen (advil) instead of aspiring if you can take advil, (ibuprofen) as it may work better for the cramps. If you can't feel thet string then you need to have the gynecologist check it to be sure it is in proper position. If you had much worse pain, vomiting, fever, or light-headedness then you would need to be seen as an emergency.
