Most : Most of the time, this is caused by a person rubbing their eye during the night. We usually don't find the reason that a person rubbed, but an exam would help fin the cause. Sometimes there is a tiny foreign body in the eye, or some inflammation along the eyelids that caused some nighttime rubbing.

The : The most common cause for the blood vessel to bust on the conjunctiva (whites of the eye) is the use of blood thinners including aspirin. The second most common cause is the sudden increase in blood pressure from valsalva maneuver (straining from constipation or coughing). Other causes are rubbing of the eye and trauma to the eye.
