Is sad less common in warmer, sunnier climates?

Yes: Research has shown that sad is more likely to occur the further away one resides from the equator.

Yes, but: I'm in the northeast and see a lot of sad. Depression cycles are more predictable and light therapy helps. I've spoken with several collegues in calif who don't see much seasonality, but the depression is no less common and occurs year round.
