Can you get c-diff without a colon? my fiance is in the hospital right now. he's having serve diarrhea, stomach pain, and headache along with extreme nausea. the doctor said that he has c-diff but the thing is he got his entire colon removed back in 2010.

Even : Even though it is very rare (only 19 cases reported as of 2009), it is possible to have a c. Difficile infection without a colon. I attached the abstract of the paper that describes it below. I hope your fiance is feeling better soon!

Yes : You can get c. Difficile enteritis in the small intestine after colectomy. It is usually characterized by high output iliostomy diarrhea.

Not usually: C diff affects the colon specifically and not the small intestine. If he had no colon does he have ileostomy? If he has rectum than that can get infected.
