"Weak" : "weak" is a rather vague symptom that can have different meanings. Do you notice any lack of ability to extend your wrist and fingers? Do you feel like it might be difficult to push off a chair by extending your elbow? Is it just weak or is there numbness, too? One condition that can cause such symptoms after drinking is "saturday night palsy." it happens because a nerve in the upper arm, the radial nerve, gets pinched, usually from slumping over a chair back. The symptoms may take several days to resolve, but they should be getting better. If your nerve symptoms are persistent or getting worse, then you need a good neurologic evaluation, either by an orthopaedic or hand surgeon or by a neurologist. It could be your symptoms are merely coincidental with the party and there is something wrong with your nerves. A few times a year i see ulnar nerves (funny bones) stop working and the hand becomes very weak very quickly. These can be difficult to get to recover and need to be addressed early to save the muscles in the hand. Most patients with this tell me their hands feel clumsy.

WHen : When you drink and sleep you may not notice that your arm is in a unusual position because the alcohol inhibits the typical response to pain or abnormal sensation. In other word you are too drunk to notice. So you do not move or shift or turn whe you or someone else is laying on your arm the wrong way. The classic example of thisin known as a saturday night palsy. It gets its name from the poor soul who falls asleep in a straight back chair with their arm slumped over the back of the chair. Compression of the posterior or inferior portion of the brachial plexus ( in the armpit) leads to a radial nerve palsy, the inability to raise the wrist or the fingers. There are varietions depending upon the pattern of nerve compression and what nerve is involved but the sat night palsy is the classic. If someone has a partial nerve palsy they may feel like their arm and hand is different of weak. For example difficulty with radial nerve function affects grip strength because you cannot form a fist with your wrist extended. Try making a fist with you hand normally and then with your wrist flexed. You can sense the difference. So subtle nerve compression may be the culprit. The key is to make sure you are improving and getting better. If not get evealuated. There may even be something such as carpal tunnel thatis early that normally wakes you up or gets you to turn your hand around while sleeping and that didnt happen when you were drunk. There are other things that can cause weakness in the hand and arm and thsi may still be a case of true true and unrelated so get this looked at if it persists.
