This : This is a very difficult question to answer without having more information. Hepatitis can be caused by a number of things, including infection, autoimmune disorders, chemical exposures, problems with the bile ducts, and even obesity. Furthermore, the degree of cirrhosis varies from person to person and in a specific individual can be stable or progressive. The best estimate of your husband's life expectancy will come from a hepatologist who has access to his full medical history, lab tests, and (if they exist) biopsy results. Some patients with cirrhosis live for decades. Others may be dead within a year. The key for your husband is to be treated for whatever underlying condition caused his liver disease and to avoid further injury. That means no alcohol and no tylenol (acetaminophen).
