Yes: There are 18 genes with over 500 mutations so far identified in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Screening is relevant in a person who has symptoms of hcm or in a family with other affected members. Yes: There are many known mutations that cause hcm. Some are suspected but not yet discovered. Most can be readily tested for by panels of tests that look at the 18 or 19 known types of hcm.
