HCM: 1st question for me as a physician is - "How did you hear about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)?" Did someone in your family or close friends suddenly die - and this was the offered explanation. If this was someone in your close family - you need evaluation-HCM a complex disease but there is a genetic basis-and both a cardiac evaluation and genetic testing can be done and treatment is available.
