I : I would recommend using a water based formula. Corn syrup is concerning because for one it's artificial, secondly it can affect the things your child will want to eat (mainly a preference for sweets) also when corn syrup is consumed in large quantities over time it can lead to health problems in the future like childhood obesity. FDA monitored : There are dozens of commercial formulas but most are similar. They are not better than breast milk but try to mimic it. It can be found in ready to feed (they add water), or powder (you add water. The protein source varies from cow milk to soy bean or elemental proteins. The sugar content & source varies. All are monitored in the US by the FDA & must meet their standards for content.
