The : The short answer- possibly. A person with chronic tonsillitis that is caused by group a strep is contagious until they are 24 hours into a course of antibiotics. A person with chronic tonsillitis that is caused by other conditions such as acid reflux or enlarged tonsils is not contagious. As you may have guessed, the only way to find the answer is to see the doctor.

Not contagious: Chronic tonsillitis is not contagious. Typically this means that you have had multiple episodes of infections involving the tonsils or that the tonsils are chronically sick. A common finding in chronic tonsillitis is tonsil stones. Chronic tonsillitis is a good reason to get them out. Other people like it sick from your chronic tonsillitis.
