Your symptoms may be from menopause, but irritability can also be a cause of depression as you mentioned. Hormonal causes including thyroid can also cause these symptoms. Hormones: The mood symptoms that occur with perimenopause can be similar to depression. In perimenopause there are usually physical symptoms such as night sweats, hot flashes, vaginal dryness and/or period irregularities. Sometimes a blood test of female hormone levels can be helpful. It would be best to be evaluated by a doctor to determine the correct diagnosis.
