A : A breast reduction is a medically indicated procedure for symptomatic breast hypertrophy. In general, at least a pound of tissue needs to be removed for insurance to cover the procedure. One should have medical documentation, if available, of symptoms such as neck, back or breast pain, shoulder grooving from bras, and skin irritation across the undersides of the breasts if insurance coverage is being used. There also needs to be a very good understanding of the procedure, needed incisions, recovery and risks prior to committing to the procedure. After a proper consultation, one should be able to make this decision on their own.

Cup size: There is no standard for cup size. Breast reduction surgery is designed to improve the symptoms of neck, back and shoulder discomfort as well as skin irritation. The size of the breast is reduced to try and fit your individual body type. These are some of my happiest patients. Good luck.

It DEpends: Cup sizes are clothing manufacturers designations and vary from brand to brand, and with your trunk circumference. Your surgeon can describe your approximate size, but cannot be held to some imprecise sizing estimate.

Up to You: Based on your description, you may be an excellent candidate for breast reduction surgery; this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. It will be important to communicate your goals clearly with your plastic surgeon prior to proceeding. Do not base your communication or satisfaction with the outcome of surgery on achieving a specific cup size. Best wishes.
