Honestly : Honestly this is a question your ob/gyn will have to help you with. Have you informed him/her of your history of retinal detachment? Were you referred to an ophthalmologist since being pregnant? If not you should contact your doctor right away and bring up your concerns. A doctor who specializes in this type of problem can be consulted, if not in person, then at least your doctor can speak to them by phone since you are so close to your due date. Good luck i encourage any doctors who have experience with this issue to please comment. Thanks in advance.

Don't worry: There should not be any problem. Pushing and straining are ok. Check your vision, one eye at a time. If you do have any signs of retinal tears or detachment, such as floaters, spots, light flashes, curtains, cuts in vision, make sure you see your ophthalmologist. Congratulations on your new baby.
