Spells : Spells or "episodes" in a child are a concerning problem that should be evaluated by a doctor right away. If the spells are new, getting longer, worse, or more frequent, an emergency department visit is needed to exclude potentially life-threatening problems. Spells can be caused by seizures, sleep disorders, or other serious problems. Most or all pediatricians' offices can be reached for guidance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Diagnosis of spells can be helped by keeping a diary of the events. The diary should record the time of day, the behavior or activity of the child before, during and after the event, and how long the event lasts. Video of the events can be recorded on a mobile phone, digital camera, or camcorder.

Absence seizures: This sounds very suspicious for absence seizures. Lack of sleep is a known inciting factor for elliciting seizures. Have your child evaluated by a neurologist.
