This : This could be blood from your menstrual cycle that was shed late, or could in fact be pregnancy that is being miscarried or a threatened miscarriage. This is a common occurence and actually it has been estimated the over half of all pregnancies end in miscarriage before a woman ever knows. You can always take a pregnancy test at home, or in your doctor's office. If it is found to be postive then your doctor may perform a blood test over the next week or so to see if your pregnancy is progressing or if you had or will have a miscarriage. If it is negative i would not worry about it unless the bleeding persists. Good luck.

Extended bleeding : Interrupted bleeding may indicate a pregnancy, not in the uterus (ectopic). Obtain a serum HCG test to be certain of pregnancy. At 35, however, some cycles may be delayed b/c of delay in ovulation. See your gyn physician if the test is positive, but if negative, ask about using oral bcp's, which will make your periods lighter, with less PMS (if no contraindications exist).
