If : If your son has had past uti's, and now has pain during urination, it is very important that he be seen and evaluated right away. Uti's are rare in boys but can occur, and if a little boy gets a UTI it mandates a work-up because it is harder for boys to get uti's then girls (because the urethra is longer, it is harder for bacteria to backtrack up the urethra). He may need an evaluation by a pediatric urologist. If he has increased pain, fever, or vomiting, then he must be seen emergently.
