I have the mirena (levonorgestrel) and chlamydia keeps on coming back as an infection.could mirena (levonorgestrel) be causing? or retaining some chlamydia? or is it just a myth?

The : The Mirena (levonorgestrel) is not the cause of the chlamydia, but it could be the reason why the chlamydia is not clearing with treatment. It's difficult to say if the Mirena (levonorgestrel) is "retaining" some chlamydia so to speak. Your best bet would be to have the Mirena (levonorgestrel) removed, therefore eliminating this possibility. On the other hand, you have to consider the possibility that you are being re-infected by your patner(s). Have your partner(s) been treated? Who ever was exposed and treated needs to have a test about 6 weeks later to make sure the chlamydia has been successfully erradicated (aka test of cure). Remember iud's do not protect against std's, so please protect yourself and use condoms!

Reinfection: If you are being treated for the chlamydia and then testing positive again, you are probably being re-exposed and reinfected. The treatment is almost always curative. Discuss this with your doctor and be sure your partners are being treated as well.
