18-24 months: This is the age when most children learn to use a spoon well. And for early attempts with a fork. Inevitably, there will be drops and spills. Welcome, don't discourage, messes as they master these tools. It's great for kids to have their own small fork with dull prongs and dishes with sides to push against. Cut bite-sized pieces for them to pick up with fork.
