A member asked:

Can anything besides cancer cause chronic bloody urine?

4 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Yes: There are several factors that may cause blood in the urine such as a urinary tract infection, trauma, kidney stones, and cancer. However, with a routine urological evaluation, the etiology is often identified and can then be treated accordingly. Some patients have chronic microscopic blood in the urine and a negative urological evaluation and the source may never be identified in these patients.

Hematuria: Bloody urine (hematuria) can be due to infection, chronic inflammation, a bladder or renal stone, as well as a tumor. However, at your age, bladder cancer is unlikely. Nevertheless, hematuria is a serious condition, and should always be immediately investigated.
