A member asked:

Can a smoker undergo a liposculpture procedure? i am a moderate smoker (less than a pack a day) and am wondering if this makes me a poor candidate for liposculpture. if so, for how long should i stop smoking before the procedure?

In : In the perception of many surgeons, smokers are considered poor candidates for any kind of surgery. Smokers are more prone to blood clots, poor circulation which can lead to poor healing of wounds, respiratory difficulty and difficlty recovery. During a liposuction, you would recieve general anesthesia, and smokers respiratory status is difficult to maintain if the person is a smoker. If you are considering liposcultpure, it is a decision you have made to improve your body image as well as your health. You need to show action toward improving your lifestyle as well. Quitting smoking would be a sign that you are committed to a healthy lifestyle and would make you a better candidtae for surgery.

Quit smoking: Smoking puts you at unnecessary risk for complications of surgery. Quit for 3 weeks before surgery and at least 6 weeks after surgery, for the best results.
