A member asked:

Is ciprofloxacin a normal 1st choice for an antibiotic to treat prostatitis?

Yes: Men with infectious prostatitis are treated with antibiotics. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) and Levaquin are too of the more common antiobiotics that are used because of their ability to penetrate the prostate tissue. However, antibiotic choice depends on a number of things including a patient's allergies and other medical history, whether or not they have had prior antibiotics, and the community bacterial pattern.

Yes: The prescribed dose is usually twice daily for 14 days! it usually takes about 2 days before you will notice a decrease in your symptoms. Be sure to take the entire 14 days of meds!
