Does drinking lots of water make it less likely that i'll get prostatitis?

No: Prostatitis is generally an infection in the prostate gland. Acute prostatitis is initially treated with antibiotics and anti-inflmmatory medications. Drinking lots of water may help you indirectly by generating more urine volume and thereby not allowing possible bacteria to be held in the bladder for a prolonged period of time by causing you to void more frequently. However, one can still get it.

See below : “Prostatitis” can be either bacterial (usually acute) in origin requiring antibiotics or non-bacterial (more common variety and often chronic/recurring). Good hydration “can” be helpful to both types by either flushing out the bacteria in the former type and diluting the various irritants in the diet, urine or system that can trigger or exacerbate the symptoms of the latter non-bacterial type.
