Tracheostomy?: Different kinds of "trachea tube", but i'm assuming you mean tracheostomy. For this, general anesthesia (usually), small incision in front of neck, just above notch above clavicles, then opening created through front of trachea and a plastic or metal tube inserted and secured around neck (sometimes with stitches for first week).

Procedure: Tracheostomy is most commonly done for people you need to be on a ventilator for more than a week or so (depending). It can be done in the or or even at the bedside. It involves making a surgical opening in the windpipe to have better access to the lungs. It is usually straightforward and can take as little as 20 minutes. It is more difficult who are extremely sick or have obese.
