Cleaning trachs: Clean your trach tube and the skin around it at least once a day. Follow these 4 basic steps: (1) collect your supplies amd choose a clean well-lit space near a sink and mirror (2) remove the inner cannula (3) clean the inner cannula in bowl of distilled water and hydrogen peroxide; clean with a trach tube brush and rinse with water (4) clean your neck plate and skin.

Keep it clean: Keep the area where the tube meets the skin clean, at times suctioning may be needed. Have the tube changed every 4 to 6 weeks. Watch for signs of infection.
