Prior : Prior to answering your question, avvo's terms of use state, "such information should be used only as a starting point for addressing your medical issues. It is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. You should not disregard medical advice from your doctor, or avoid obtaining medical care, due to any health information you obtain on the site." without knowing your past medical history and other specifics about your chronic cough, this question is difficult to answer. The 3 most common causes of chronic cough (which are usually asked on board exams) are: asthma, post-nasal drip and gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd). This being said, there are many other factors that can cause a cough and as mentioned before, it is difficult to pinpoint (i don't know if you have seasonal allergies, anxiety, are a smoker or your family history). The best bet would be to go to an urgent care who will have physicians available to take your history, physical exam and possible lab work in order to determine what the next step is.
