A member asked:

I cannot seem to focus on a task unless i am stressed, could this be adult add? i know this may seem like an organization issue, but currently at work, and in the past at university i seem to have this problem: it is extremely difficult to stay focused

ADD : Add is one possibility. Other possibilities could also explain difficulty focusing, like depression or anxiety. In addition, it would be important to ponder if your challenges in focusing has been restricted to work and school, or does it extend to other things like concentrating well enough to follow a tv program. Additionally, it would be important to think about what, if anything, makes it harder to focus, like specific kinds of conflicts or stress. It sounds like this is something that is having a significant impact on your life. It would be a good idea for you to go to a mental health professional of an evaluation. This can help clarify what the issues are and give you a direction to improve things. Hope this helps.

Yes, sounds like ADD: This sounds like classic add, in this case in adulthood. Medication options are effective, and there are well-tolerated time-release options. Of non-pharmaceutical options, mindfulness meditation training can work real well.

Certainly: Add is not just a disease of kids. It is a genetic variant, and is present in adults. One characteristic of add in kids and adults is that strong emotion helps to focus attention resulting in last minute heroic efforts that are suddenly easier to begin and carry through.. Go online-there are innumerable sites that offer various check lists of symptoms and "tests". Then check with your doctor.
