Birth : Birth control pills contain two hormones (estrogen and progesterone), which are both naturally produced by the female ovaries. Through manipulating these levels, birth control pills prevent ovulation and therefore reduce the risk of pregnancy. Remember, no form of birth control except abstinence can 100% prevent pregnancy. To answer your question, birth control pills should improve acne, they lighten periods (less bleeding and less days of bleeding) for most women. They also reduce menstrual cramping. On the flip side, some side effects include moodiness, bloating, midcycle bleeding, and a very small increased risk of dangerous blood clots and strokes.

Many positives: The pill has multiple non-contraceptive benefits: fewer cramps, lighter flow, regular flow, less anemia, improved acne, lower risk of ovarian and uterine cancer, lower risk of ovarian cysts, treatment of pain from endometriosis, less unwanted growth of hair, help with pms. These many positives should be balanced with potential risks, but for most healthy women, the benefits outweigh the risks.
