Genetics: Familial tendency, obesity, hormone use, having few or no pregnancies, not breastfeeding, lack of exercise, alcohol use are among the more common risk factors for development of breast cancer. The lifetime incidence is about 1 in 12, so i recommend monthly self breast exams, annual clinical breast exams, and mammograms beginning at age 40, as a screening strategy. Antiperspirants are safe.

Unknown: While this has been a popular topic online, there is no conclusive evidence linking breast cancer to the use of deodorants and antiperspirants. Nevertheless, the active ingredient in antiperspirants, aluminum hydroxide, and a preservative used in some deodorants, parabens, may both have estrogen-like effects on breast tissue. Until we know more, i suggest that you use non-paraben deodorants.
