Does having pulmonary hypertension make you ineligible for a liver transplant?

No: If the pulmonary hypertension is coming from the liver (a condition known as portopulmonary hypertension) it does not make you ineligibile for liver transplant. Many patients will actually resolve this condition after transplantation.

No: Some pts have had alive and lung transplant and portal hypertension has been associated with pulmonary hypertension. Neither disorder diaqualifies one from transplant.

It may.: Risks created by pulmonary hypertension can be so great that the liver transplant wouldn't be successful. It depends also on what is causing the pulmonary hypertension. Is it the liver disease or some other problem? How severe is the pulmonary hypertension? Have medications reduced the pulmonary pressures? All these are important questions that influence the risk.
