Yes: Serious injuries do have a bearing on the heart. Such as blood loss, organ damage etc.

Difficult to say: If an injury causes rapid blood loss, cardiac arrest can occur. If trauma to the chest is involved, the heart may stop due to being stunned and causing an arryhthmia.
