Don't find out: With a sharp instrument, very easy.

Depends: It the object is sharp and long enough to go through skin, the fat under the skin, and through the muscles between the ribs, it could enter the space where the heart and lungs are. If air gets into that space, the lung can collapse on that side. If there is a stab wound in the chest, go to an emergency room (urgently if having trouble breathing), urgent care, or your doctor.
