Recent cuts and scar: All cuts scar. It is the way our body heals. The best scars are the result of carefully and immediately, cleaning and aligning the skin edges. Keeping the wound clean, avoiding further trauma and using an antibiotic ointment (like bacitracin) until the surface has closed helps. Massage, sun avoidance and topic silicone treatment can help lighten and smooth the scar. For best results, see a doctor.

Ointment, no sun: Keep the wound covered with antibiotic ointment 3 to 4 times/day to provide a moist environment for the cells to grow across for most effective wound healing. Avoid sun exposure that may result in hyper pigmentation. Use a scar gel that contains silicone to minimize redness, and keep the scar as flat as possible. Consider scar revision or laser therapy 6 to 12 months from now, if needed.
