Never heard the term: An infant with complex congenital heart disease can go into left or right sided heart failure. Many use the term congestive heart failure to describe the build up of tissue or lung fluid as the heart falls behind. I have never heard anyone use the term congenital heart failure in 3 decades +.Maybe you've got your terms mixed up.

CHF: I suspect you are misusing the terms. Congenital heart disease can cause congestive heart failure. Congestive heart failure has many causes only some of them due to congenital causes.

Mixed terms: Congenital heart disease (chd) refers to a structural birth defect in the heart -- a problem in the early development of the heart. Congestive heart failure (CHF) refers to failure of the heart to adequately support the circulation -- can result from many different causes (chronic high bp, kidney disease, previous heart attack, thyroid dz, etc.) and is more a destination than a disease process.
