Poorly metabolized: Nicotine is poorly metabolized by a newborn who begins to assume the work of cleansing it's own blood as soon as the cord is clamped.The babies nicotine level is the same as mom's at birth, but it can take days before a newborn can remove 1/2 form their system.During that period, poor sleep, fussiness & irregular feeding may be seen.
