How long does it take to recover from an acl injury?

6 months: It takes a long time to recover from an ACL reconstruction. Your surgeon might let you retunr to competitive sports at 6 months, but a longer delay e.g. 7 to 9 months is not unusual. Physical therapy (rehab) is an important part of returning to activities as quickly and safely as possible.

3-6 months: Most patients are walking well by 3 months. I allow patients to return to preinjury activities at 6 months with a sports brace. Full recovery with incorporation of the graft takes 2 yrs.
