Avoid pressure: Pressure sores occur because prolonged weight on a body part with a bony protuberance cuts off blood supply & leads to tissue death. Avoid this by alternating positions frequently when lying in bed or sitting. Certain cushions/mattresses may help too.

Bedsores: Bedsores are due to pressure over bony prominences. The best way to prevent bedsores, once they occur, is to keep pressure of these areas. That means that you need to constantly move the person into different positions to relieve the pressure. Seeking professional help like with a wound center is a great option since depending on the depth, stage and location of the uler, your options will differ.

Prevent pressure: Not all pressure sores can be prevented. There are many risk factors that result in pressure injuries. Refer you to the national pressure ulcer advisory panel website for review, although technical, of pressure ulcers. www.npuap.org.

Yes: "no pressure, no sore." pressure sores occur in patients who either lack sensation (e.g. Spinal cord injury patients) or the ability to reposition themselves (elderly or comatose patients). In general, repositioning should be done every 2 hours to prevent the development of pressure sores. Early sores may heal if they can be protected from pressure (e.g. Prone position.).
