In general: Itching, peeling, reddened skin that usually start with small clear fluid filled "pimples" typically in one area. But there are themes and variations to this, and there are other skin problems that can masquerade as a fungus but are something else. There is often a characteristic fungal odor associated with fungus infections.

Athletes foot: The symptoms are athletes foot include scaly skin with redness and pruritus which means itchiness. Also foot fungus can cause it an odor.
