is there such a thing as an acne surgery?

Yes: Acne surgery or acne scar treatments encompass a wide variety of procedures. This can include laser resurfacing/ dermabrasion to smooth the scar tissue. Scar removal and revision to remove deep scars, subcision and filler treatment to lift tethered scar tissue. A dermatologist or facial plastic surgeon can review all of the options with you and determine which is best.

Yes: It is a bit of a misnomer, but there is a billing code for "acne surgery" that is used for removal of milia, which are little tiny cysts that are common in people with acne.

Depends: The duration of healing depends on how the surgery was performed. If the scars will be removed and sutured closed, you should be fairly well healed within two weeks.

What is the definition or description of: acne surgery?

Dr. Imtiaz Chaudhry answered

Acne surgery: Acne surgery is usally extraction/reduction of the lesions by several means which is more useful when the lesions are not inflammed. Also intralesional triamcinolone injections at a very low concentration may be helpful. To avoid, it is usually recommended to use medical treatment before resorting to any surgical intervention. Scar can be minimized by certain kind of lasers as well.

Hello docs, is acne surgery the solution to end acne?

No: Acne itself is a chronic, non-lifestyle-related, serious disease that cannot be cured but which self-cures eventually. Until then, it can be managed with medications. Surgery is for scarring when it's over. If topical benzoyl peroxide has not cleared you in two weeks, get with your personal physician for prescription-strength rx.
