Not too bad: Hip replacement surgery is one of the most successful orthopedic procedures. With current multimodal analgesia protocols, patients can expect to have some incisional pain that can be easily controlled with oral pain medicines. The pain should gradually subside over the a few weeks time. However, you can expect that the pain in the groin from the arthritis will be gone after surgery.

It depends.: Most people have less pain after surgery than before surgery. You'll be up and walking the day after surgery. The first day is the worst, but you should be over most of it within the first few days. Healing progresses at a rate of 8% to 10% for 10 to 12 weeks.
