A ruptured tendon: Can come from either an injury or can occur spontaneously (some medications like Cipro (ciprofloxacin) can do this). It's when a tendon separates from the bone it's supposed to be attached to. Muscles become tendons so when a muscle contracts, it pulls on a tendon and the tendon, which is attached to a bone, causes motion. If the tendon is ruptured, no movement can take place.

Tendon hand surgery: Lacerated or injured tendons and others blunt injury is often called a rupture if the tendon is not in continuity, at times observation, splinting in the proper protected procedure, other times surgeruy and direct repair or reattaching into bone.
