Shoveling can: place tremendous force on joints., ligament and tendons, the moment arm or lever arm of a 10 lb shovel full of dirt and snow is made greater by not only the length of the shovel but of the arm position, your elbow a t 90 degrees present more of a moment arm than when extended, tendon ruptures are certainly possible at any position
