Causes are: new/ill fitting dentures, gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease) throat/mouth infection, medications, like Clonazepam (klonopin), Clozapine (clozaril, Fazaclo odt), Pilocarpine (salagen), & carbicarbidopa-levodopa (parcopa, sinemet).
