Don't scratch : In general, a mosquito bite reaction is a red itchy bump that does not scar. Pigmentation may increase as a reactive process. This pigment can remain for several months and will resolve without treatment. However, severe scratching can make scars. Topical antipruritic creams help, but self control is key.

Scars are permanent: Some people confuse redness [inflammation] with scarring. This will subside with time. True scars will mature and shrink, unless they are keloids, a condition not treatable without proper diagnosis.
