Are dentures normally very loose at first and then tighten over time?

Loose dentures: Denture retention is dependent on a number of factors: size and shape of the ridges, amount and type of saliva, size and activity of the tongue, face musculature, and of course proper fit of the dentures. Also very important is the willingness of the patient to adapt to wearing dentures. New dentures should not be "very loose" but it is dependent on any or all of the above factors.

No: If your dentures are loose then you should take them to get adjusted at your dentist. Loose dentures can cause problems such as infections and should be fitted appropriately.

No: If they start loose, they will only get looser over time and can create problems. Sometimes implants can help improve the stability of dentures. Go back to your dentist to have your denture evaluated and adjusted so it will fit better.

Usually no: Usually they are tight at first and get looser over time. Best to show your dentist and ask his/her advice.

No: Depending on the type of denture, who made it, and how much you paid, having loose dentures initially could easily happen. The dentures will not tighten over time. If anything, they will become more loose. I recommend having a prosthodontist who specializes in dentures, fabricate a denture for you. This will help ensure the very best fit and function possible. Best of luck ! keep smiling !

Depends: If they are "immediate",meaning they were placed at the time of tooth extractions, then they will be somewhat loose shortly after placement as the tissues heal and shrink. They will need to be relined to fit properly after healing complete. If just a replacement set, then they should fit very well at time of insertion, and with some adjustments,as needed, should fit even better.See a Prosthodontist.

Very common: When you're first fitted for new dentures, it's normal to experience minor irritation, which should fade as your mouth becomes used to them. If your dentures are not comfortable, ask your dentist about dental implant supported denture. Good luck.
