How is it determined that babies/toddlers need glasses?

Pedi opthalmologist : The pediatric ophthalmologist & some other eye specialists can assess infant and toddler vision using a variety of non invasive methods. If there is a difference of the strength of the two eyes, or a significant defect, glasses may be appropriate. Infants are naturally nearsighted until their eyes improve around 4-5, but some need early help.

By eye exam: There are a number of techniques for this. Generally babies or toddlers only need glasses if they are very farsighted, very nearsighted or have a difference between their left and right eyes. An experienced ophthalmologist can help you with this.
