Bowel habits: Ibs is characterized by chronic constipation with intermittent bouts of cramping and diarrhea - sometimes severe. Flare-ups are routinely brought on by stress and certain foods that you specifically do not tolerate. There no specific tests for ibs - the diagnosis is made by your symptoms. However, other possibly serious bowel disorders could instead be the culprit - see your doctor.
